The Fort Bragg Jewish Congregation serves some 250 active-duty personnel as well as their families, joined by a growing influx of retirees in the Sandhills area. A military chaplain presides over a robust, independent community centered at the Watters Family Life Center on the base. The community maintains cooperative ties with nearby congregations in Fayetteville and Jackson Springs.
Rabbi Scott Klein leads weekly Shabbat services on Friday nights followed by an oneg as well as holiday observances in a chapel at the Watters Family Life Center.
The presence of Jewish chaplains and congregational life at Fort Bragg dates back to World War II, when the post saw a massive influx of personnel and the construction of several “Series 700” chapels to accommodate the diverse spiritual needs of the war-time mobilization.
